OUR GIRL #016 SUPPORT FROM UNDERWATER BOYS

Wednesday 13th September 2017

Venue: The Lexington, Kings Cross, London

Nearest Tube Station: Kings Cross St Pancras (All Lines apart from Jubilee)

Our Girl descended on London for their biggest headline show in the capital to date. The Cannibal Hymns label band had fellow and new members of the Hymn’s family Underwater Boys as support also.

Underwater Boys made of a couple of members of former Brighton band Tusks took to the stage for their first ever show. Fusing Tame Impala psych rock and the better part of Swim Deeps sound the five piece played to a packed out Lexington and boy did they let people know they were there. A quite faultless performance culminating in their first release ‘Everyone You Know’ a wavey summer anthem with vocals and a riff keepin you swaying until your hearts content.

It was onto the headliners and three piece Brighton outfit Our Girl. Compiled of lead singer Soph Nathan (ask member of The Big Moon), bassist and backing vocals Josh Taylor and drummer Lauren Wilson.

Having released EP ‘Normally’ at the end of last year and gigging where possible the band have built up a fan base that enjoy heavenly vocals with a stadium ready rock sound and melodic verses to die for.

‘Being Around’ the first track off the previously stated EP embodies this whole heartedly and ‘No Big Deal’ arguably their most well know track carries on from that with the same mentality and sound.

Witnessing it live is incredibly pleasing to the ears as it transcends from record to live beautifully. The onstage delivery captivates the audience and I’m left fully fulfilled from watching an up and coming band make waves in the scene.

Overall a performance that the band should be elated with bearing in mind the circumstances of the gig and venue.
