Venue: o2 Forum Kentish Town, London
Nearest Tube: Kentish Town (Northern Line)
The city of Leicester’s finest rock band export returned to the capital for three nights on the trot at the o2 Forum in Kentish Town. This being their first night of three coincidentally it fell on the same night that Leicester City hosted Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their quarter final in the Champions League. As I enjoyed a pint at The Assembly House pre gig I overheard rumours that Serge, Tom & co weren’t to take to the stage until the match had finished, obviously not keen on them starting at 9:30ish (not including the possibility of extra time and/or penalties) I was somewhat glad to see The Foxes concede a goal midway through the first half.
Moving on to the gig itself and away from football, I’ve always said Kasabian are one of the best and most enjoyable live bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching. They did not disappoint this time round either coming out the traps with new single ‘Comeback Kid’ composed of marching band style drumming and a hook to die for, this is sure to become a fans favourite. Followed by ‘Bumblebeee’, ‘Underdog’ and ‘Eez-eh’ which was mixed with a little Daft Punk towards the end of the song I started to get the feeling that this was going to be a set list of hits rather than focusing on their new material. I wasn’t wrong. A highlight for me was when Serge took centre stage for ‘La Fee Verte’ midway through the set taken off album ‘Velociraptor!’ with it’s heavy Beatles influence it was a nice breather from the raucous start from the lads.
The choice of venue being the o2 Forum was a head nod to the fans and a real nice touch on keeping the night ‘real’. They went on to play a 17 song setlist with hits from all the previous records released by the midlands band. Once again affirming their stature as one of the best live rock bands in the world. Looking forward to hearing the new album ‘For Crying Out Loud’ which is due for release on 5th May 2017.
